With Gratitude to the Women in My Family

Standard

With Gratitude and Thanksgiving I remember all the women, in my family, who came before me…

Who traveled from Ireland, England, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Arkansas and Texas;

Who cooked their meals on open spits or cast iron stoves, some knowing the luxury of their own dish pattern others using tinware…

Because of you I live with modern luxuries and decorate for those around me to show them the loveliness of God…

Because of the sacrifice of your menfolk, husbands and sons, my sons live in luxury…

Because all along without the modern conveniences, you persevered, birthing your babies at home, preserving the bloodline so we could call ourselves
FAMILY…

With Gratitude, I thank you for my family and your personal sacrifices so that we can endure.

Women Voted

This election and the last four years have been exhausting.  The media and their obvious bias is disgusting and that includes Fox who touts themselves as a conservative channel.  As you watched the election results, they couldn’t hide their obvious pleasure even seeming giddy and silly at times with their pointless banter.  After declaring Obama President none of the discussion included the tax increases we face or the fact that we have American soldiers at war or the heinous and insurmountable debt we are facing.  They talked about what Mitt Romney had done wrong which is typical liberal modus operandi – to deflect.  Never mind the facts about Obama who has never had a budget, never gotten us out of Afghanistan (instead put us in Libya),  did not defend Americans in Benghazi,  declares us a non-Christian nation while entertaining Muslim groups in The White House, gives amnesty to illegals who further drain our medical and welfare systems, and on and on.

I JUST WANT TO SHOUT, “WHO WILL PAY FOR YOUR FREE STUFF?”  Do you really believe you are so privileged that you can go to a doctor for free or get a cell phone for nothing or collect endless unemployment until you retire on social security?   With 47% of Americans on some form of government freebie, unemployment, no new job creation due to restrictions and cap and trade which Obama will probably sign as an executive order,  the other 53% of working Americans won’t be able to hold up much longer.  SHAME ON YOU FOR LEAVING THE BILL TO YOUR CHILDREN!!!!!
Worst of all, 55% of votes for Obama were from women who sold America out for a $10 pack of birth control pills and the right to kill their own babies.  God help us!  To that end, I will tell you my faith is not in the government, but in the Almighty God Who knows before we know what our sinful actions will be, but allow me to print a scripture written over two thousand years ago:

2 Timothy 3:1-7
(NIV)

But mark this:  There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of  money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, no lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power.  Have nothing to do with such people.  They are the kind who worm their way into the homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sin and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I HOPE THIS MAKES YOU THINK!

Let’s Discuss Honey Boo Boo

Standard

“The reason the show is like crack, is because it gives a complete insight into an entirely different world and one that we as city-dwellers have never lived in,” says Jaclyn Hummel, a Boo Boo superfan who works in entertainment advertising.  “I am city-born and -raised,” adds the Soho resident, “so this just gives me a new understanding of what the world outside city borders is like. And [Alana’s] mother is just as much of a train wreck as her daughter.” (Source: TLC)

This is what cracks me up about so-called city dwellers and educated people.  Do they really think that Honey Boo Boo or other Boo Boos don’t live in their neighborhood?  Do they seriously believe that they are the exception and correctly from the proverbial “right side of the tracks”?  I think this is a higher form of ignorance and what I term superiority ignorance.  Mrs. Hummel, I know educated people from the city who are a ‘complete train wreck’.

All of this brings me to the discussion of Honey Boo Boo.   I like her spunk or tenacity or complete innocence or naivete …can’t decide which or a combination of some and maybe even all.  I didn’t like her endorsement of “Marack Obama”, but that’s another discussion at another time.    To see what’s going on in the world I watch the two perspectives of news by switching from FOX to CNN so I found her while watching Huckabee on FOX.   There was a clip comparing Obama’s southern dialect of convenience and Honey Boo Boo’s true Georgia dialect.   Obama was asking a crowd in New Orleans, “Where’s ya dolla?”  and Honey Boo Boo slanged her southern dialect with, “A dolla makes me holla, Honey Boo Boo.”   Huckabee got it correct,  Honey Boo Boo is clearly the winner in the sincerity of her southern slang.

She is who she is and could care less that her shirt and hands are absolutely filthy.  I wonder is she a Anna Nicole Smith in the making or will she wake up one day and realize sketti should be spaghetti and ketchup and butter does not make a worthy sauce for pasta?   I admire her for getting on a pageant stage with no hang ups, no idea that she doesn’t fit the standard prescription for beauty and she loves it.  She even had Miss Georgia laughing at her flatulence (that’s farting if you come from the wrong side of the tracks).  I  like her mother, June, for her blatant honesty.  I hope she isn’t truly ignorant and is putting money from the show away for the future.   Mostly, I hope that Honey Boo Boo is protected and she is allowed to be a child with certain parameters to prepare her for the future including a solid education.
The other side of this discussion would say, “what are we coming to here in America?”  So many things are wrong with this situation, to name a few:  pageants cost a lot of money and attract lower income mothers,  exploitation of  little girls,  teen pregnancy,  obesity..all here in one episode.  Are our standards so low that we find this entertaining?
Maybe I just like saying Honey Boo Boo and I am over analyzing the situation.  I’ve only seen one episode.
See ya later, Honey Boo Boo!

When Aggies Come Home

Standard

When Aggies come home they make their deposit of clothes and shoes in the laundry room…

Then, they move into the kitchen to make sure you’ve been rattling those pots and pans for some old fashioned home cooking and lots of it…

Then, they drink gallons of iced tea and eat apple pie all day long…

Then, they load up their truck with fresh laundry and the goodies you’ve been collecting for weeks for them to take back to Aggie Land…

And,  you stand in the drive with tears in your eyes wondering when you get to see your Aggie again…

Scratch ‘n Sniff John Deere

Standard

There is nothing like the smell of freshly mowed grass and baled hay at the end of a fall day.

John Deere could sell thousands of tractors just by a post card with a small scratch ‘n sniff area labeled “Hay”.   All men are inherently attracted to the smell of the fresh clean scent and it reminds me of the hot summer coming to a close and time for fall and the crispness of winter mornings.
